What a CBC scheme of work is
A CBC scheme of work is a TSC-required professional planning document. Every Senior School teacher in Kenya is required to submit a scheme of work at the start of each term. The scheme maps every lesson across the term, showing what is taught in each lesson, what the learning outcomes are, how learning will be facilitated, and how it will be assessed.
The standard TSC format has eight columns per lesson row. ExamPilot fills all eight from the official KICD curriculum designs for the selected subject and grade:
Built from official KICD curriculum designs
ExamPilot's scheme builder uses the official KICD curriculum designs — the same documents KICD provides to publishers and teachers to guide content development. For Grade 10 core subjects, the specific learning outcomes (SLOs) and key inquiry questions (KIQs) in ExamPilot schemes are sourced directly from the KICD documents, not generated approximations.
The strand and sub-strand sequence follows the KICD curriculum design order. Term allocation — which sub-strands belong in Term 1, Term 2, Term 3 — is proportionally distributed across the school year following the standard 14-14-9 week structure.
Frequently asked questions
What is a CBC scheme of work in Kenya?
A CBC scheme of work is a TSC-required professional planning document submitted by Senior School teachers at the start of each term. It maps out every lesson for the term, showing: week number, lesson number, strand, sub-strand, specific learning outcomes (SLOs), key inquiry questions (KIQs), learning experiences, learning resources, and assessment methods. It must follow the standard TSC professional documents format.
How do I generate a CBC scheme of work for Grade 10?
On ExamPilot, select your subject, grade (10, 11 or 12), and term (Term 1, 2 or 3). The Smart Scheme Builder draws from the official KICD curriculum design for that subject and builds a full-term week-by-week scheme with KICD-sourced outcomes, inquiry questions, activities and resources. You can download the completed scheme for submission.
Is ExamPilot scheme of work in TSC format?
Yes. Schemes generated by ExamPilot follow the standard TSC professional documents format — the same layout required for submission and inspection in Kenyan Senior Schools. Columns include: Week, Lesson, Strand, Sub-strand, Specific Learning Outcomes, Key Inquiry Questions, Learning Experiences, Learning Resources, and Assessment Methods.
Are the schemes aligned to the KICD curriculum designs?
Yes. Where KICD curriculum design data is available (Grade 10 for 16 core subjects), ExamPilot uses the official KICD SLOs and KIQs directly — not approximations. The strand and sub-strand sequence follows the KICD curriculum design for the selected subject and term.
How long does it take to generate a full-term scheme of work?
Approximately 3 to 5 minutes from subject selection to completed scheme. A full-term scheme for a 14-week term with 4 lessons per week covers 56 lesson rows — each with strand, sub-strand, SLOs, KIQs, activities and resources.
Can I generate schemes for Grade 11 and Grade 12?
Yes. ExamPilot generates schemes for Grade 10, 11 and 12. KICD curriculum design data (with official SLOs and KIQs) is currently available for Grade 10. Grade 11 and 12 schemes use the established strand and sub-strand structure with generated outcomes.
What does a CBC scheme of work include?
A complete ExamPilot scheme includes: school name and teacher details, subject, grade and term, week-by-week lesson rows, strand and sub-strand per lesson, specific learning outcomes (3 per lesson), key inquiry question (1 per lesson), learning experiences (2 per lesson), learning resources including textbook page references, and assessment method. The scheme covers every lesson of the term in sequence.
How much does it cost to generate a CBC scheme of work?
The Termly plan (KES 449 per school term) includes 5 schemes of work. The Annual plan (KES 999 per year) includes 15 schemes. After quota, additional schemes cost KES 20 each via M-Pesa credit top-up. All payments are via M-Pesa — no credit card required.
